Ismaila Soro’s presence in the Celtic team is making waves back home. He’s revealed his old neighbourhood in the Ivory Coast are now proud supporters of the club.

Soro signed for the Bhoys last January and has already had plenty of ups and downs at the club.

He initially took a long time to earn an opportunity in Neil Lennon’s Celtic first-team.

However, subsequent form demonstrated he has the potential to be a mainstay in the team.

Again on the sidelines after Scott Brown’s re-emergence in the starting eleven, Soro is now waiting on his next big Celtic chance. He’s only started once since the end of January.

However, he still dreams of having a big Celtic future and has apparently created a new supporters club in the major city of Abidjan!

Speaking to The Scottish Daily Mail, Soro said: “I want to be a big part of this club going forward. I want to win trophies and make the fans happy.

“I still keep close to Abidjan. I call home every day. My mum is proud. She just tells me to eat well and put a coat on when I go out. Like every mum, I suppose. I am a Christian and every day I pray. I give thanks to my father every day.

“Everybody in that neighbourhood is now a Celtic fan. I take them back strips and other gear. They all watch the games online.”

Still to see the best of Ismaila Soro at Celtic

Although some of his performances this season have been impressive, you get the impression he’s still to reach his heights at Celtic.

There was a fair bit of hype after he came into the team, which was earned, but not really followed through on with consistency.

That’s the next step for the 22-year-old. If he can firmly replace Brown in next season’s team and show he is capable of performing over a six to 12 month period, we can really start to get excited about what he can offer.

Until then, it’s just great to have him around. He’s one of our thoroughly likeable players and it’s fantastic to hear his Celtic influence is having an impact back home!
