Joe Ledley is keeping himself busy.

The midfielder made over 150 appearances for Celtic across three-and-a-half years, after joining the Hoops from Cardiff City in 2010.

He retired three years ago, having received 77 caps for Wales. As is the case with every footballer at the end of their career, he was faced with the decision of what to do next.

He could’ve followed former teammates Scott Brown and Mark Wilson into coaching, or become a pundit like Charlie Mulgrew.

But on Monday night, Ledley will be deciding the semi-final draw of the Welsh League Cup in a go-kart race.

The Welsh league pyramid is unique, given that all of the nation’s biggest clubs play in the English pyramid instead.

The National MG Cup is the Welsh equivalent of Scotland’s Premier Sports Cup.

And at 8pm on Monday, November 10th, he will be deciding the ball numbers for the tournament’s semi-final draw in a Go-Kart race.

Also involved in the race will be former Wales players Danny Gabbidon, Andy Legg and Scott Young.

It will be held by Nathaniel Cars, and will involve Barry Town United, Llandudno, The New Saints and Cambrian United.

Welcome to the international break…

The decision to hold the draw with a race has drawn a mixed reaction, with some taking the “Game’s gone” approach and others applauding the originality.

One thing for sure is that you definitely wouldn’t get that in Scotland, where our best offering is a tipsy Rod Stewart.

Ledley was an FA Cup runner-up with Cardiff in 2008 and Crystal Palace in 2016. He won four trophies at Celtic Park.

Other prominent Welsh Celtic connections

Celtic’s other prominent Welsh players include John Hartson and Adam Matthews, who were also both regular features in the national side.

Present Wales boss Craig Bellamy has ruled out a switch to Celtic amid reports linking him to the Parkhead vacancy.

Callum Osmand has appeared for Wales at youth international level, but due to a change to Channel Islands eligibility rules, he is no longer eligible to play for them.

Chris Davies, ex-assistant to Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow and now manager of Birmingham, is also a Welsh youth international.
