It has been five years since Ryan Christie left Celtic and moved to Bournemouth.
At the time, Bournemouth were in England’s second tier, and Celtic were about to begin their trophy-laden journey under Ange Postecoglou.
But on the summer transfer deadline day of 2021, Christie departed Parkhead to begin a different chapter of his career.
Fast forward to the present, and the Scotland international is flying with the Cherries, who on Sunday secured European football for the first time in their history.

Ryan Christie to play Europa League football with Bournemouth after Celtic exit
Of course, Celtic are far bigger than Bournemouth, and bigger than most in England’s top flight, but this call from Christie has worked out.
Not only did he help the South Coast club to earn promotion to the Premier League, but they also stabilised themselves, pushed for Europe on several occasions, and finally hit the jackpot on the final day of the season over the weekend.
Christie was suspended for Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on the final day, after previously getting sent off against Fulham, but the Cherries will be playing in Europe next term, and it’s a huge story for a club that only holds around 10,000 supporters.

Christie’s career at Bournemouth in numbers
Christie has played all over the shop at Bournemouth, mainly in a deeper role in the middle of the park, which further indicates the progress he has made in his career.
The 31-year-old played 151 matches in all competitions for the champions of Scotland, winning nine trophies, and he has now already surpassed those appearances at Dean Court.
Hopefully, Celtic return to the Champions League next season, or else, they will have an unwanted reunion with their former player.
- Games for Bournemouth: 177
- Goals: 10
- Assists: 17
