Celtic youngster Luca Connell has earned a man of the match on his debut for Scottish League Two side Queen’s Park.

Connell helped the Spiders to a 3-0 win over Stranraer and assisted one of their goals with a sumptuous free-kick.

The club were quick to name him man of the match after an online vote for supporters.

Connell only made the switch to the lower league side on Thursday but was trusted by former Dundee United and Falkrik boss Ray McKinnon to start immediately.

He has surely done his chances of more football in the coming weeks no harm at all.

Queen’s Park are currently top of the division by five points. After the resumption of football for League One and Two, they also have a busy schedule over the next couple of months.

Connell has experienced first-team football before at his first club Bolton Wanderers. He made appearances in the English Championship before his switch to Celtic.

However, he failed to win his way into the plans of Neil Lennon nor John Kennedy, despite training regularly with the first-team squad at Lennoxtown.

His only exposure to Celtic action was in pre-season, where he caught the eye against Hibernian in particular.

Fans will be hoping he can get regular week-to-week action under his belt, shine at a lower level and return to Celtic ready to fight for his place in the squad.
