Formula One legend Eddie Jordan has seen and done a lot in the sports industry. Famously he was the owner of a Grand Prix team for 14 years, during some of the most glorious seasons in motorsport.

But for the 75-year-old, the most emotional sporting moment he has witnessed came at Celtic Park when the Bhoys emerged victorious against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League back in 2012.

Jordan has since transitioned into a media career and hosts the Formula For Success podcast with retired Formula One driver David Coulthard. The 13-time race winner brought up the Irishman’s association with Celtic, which prompted Jordan’s trip down memory lane.

Asked if he was once a shareholder at the Bhoys, Jordan said: “I still am. Only much more minor than I was then. Probably the most moving moment of sport in my lifetime is a Champions League game. Celtic beat Barcelona in Parkhead.

“The night train, an all-nighter night from Glasgow back to London, it was the craziest journey I think I’ve ever been on in my life. You can imagine what the Scots are like after something like that.

“But to beat Barcelona, it was magical. I’ve never forgotten it. My son says he will bring it to his grave because it was just the most electric moment and memory that he’s ever had.”

On that famous night, which came in the wake of Celtic’s 125th birthday, Victor Wanyama and Tony Watt were on the scoresheet to knock off one of the best teams in the world at the team. It’s one of those nights no fan forgets where they were for – whether in the stadium or elsewhere. It seems that is as true for Jordan as anyone.

Celtic will have the chance to deliver another monstrous UEFA Champions League moment later this year when the Bhoys go into another group stage against some of the continent’s biggest teams.

With Brendan Rodgers on the brink of a return and apparently bullish about what can be achieved, could another massive night be around the corner? It’s exciting to think about.
