Christopher Jullien’s proposed move to German Bundesliga side Schalke is now off after the defender failed to agree personal terms.

The Frenchman flew out to Germany for talks and medical examinations on Wednesday ahead of a proposed loan with an option to buy deal.

Despite Jullien’s move looking imminent, the defender has failed to agree upon personal terms and has now flown back to Glasgow, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Despite returning to Parkhead, it still doesn’t appear that the 29-year-old has a future at Parkhead, with Romano stating that the club will now negotiate with other sides to find a solution.

Reports from earlier in the week had suggested there was further interest, and Ligue 1 duo Rennes and Lorient were also eyeing up a potential move [Sun Sport].

With Postecoglou not having the central defender in his plans, you would imagine that both parties are keen to strike a deal quickly that would see Jullien head elsewhere this summer.

However, with the injury issues that the Celtic defender has suffered over the past two years, clubs might be wary about bringing him in and paying high wages.

The Celtic manager is also already on the lookout for a replacement to Jullien, and getting the former Toulouse man off the books may be a factor before making his move to bring in another centre-back.

Despite a brilliant start to life at Celtic, it will have been an extremely frustrating time for Jullien due to all the issues he has suffered.

We will have to wait and see what happens next and whether the player will join back up with his teammates ahead of the start of pre-season.

Hopefully, the player’s representatives are able to find a solution that will see him get back to playing football during the prime years of his career.
