Celtic appear to be edging closer to signing Benfica winger Jota, with reports stating that the 23-year-old is now in Glasgow to complete the deal.
The Portuguese under-21 internationalist spent last campaign on loan at Parkhead after signing for Ange Postecoglou’s side on summer deadline day last summer.
Jota quickly became a fan’s favourite amongst the Celtic support, scoring 13 goals and racking up 14 assists in 40 games across the campaign.
After including an option-to-buy in the winger’s loan move, Celtic fans have been urging the club to conclude a deal that would see Jota remain in Glasgow.
The proposed move has become somewhat of a saga, with countless reports from the media in Scotland and Portugal suggesting that the deal has all been agreed and set for completion.
All that is missing is the official confirmation of the move, and Celtic finally look to be edging closer to that announcement.
According to a report from Football Scotland, Jota is now in Glasgow and on the verge of completing his permanent move to join Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The tricky winger is expected to sign a four-year deal at Parkhead, with the Bhoys paying a reported fee of £6.5 million to bring him to the club [The Record].
Celtic fans will be left delighted by the news of Jota permanently signing.
Going into the summer window, there were likely several transfer moves that Celtic fans were keen to see.
However, bringing Jota back to the club was arguably seen as one of the highest priorities, given how much of an impact he had last season.
After a difficult few years with Benfica and Real Valladolid, the wideman finally found a home and kick-started his career under Postecoglou.
It seems that with the latest update, Jota will even arrive in time for the Hoops pre-season training camp in Austria next week, which would showcase the Celtic manager delivering on his promise of completing much of his business ahead of prepartions for the 2022/23 campaign.
Now, all we can do is wait for the club to announce the fourth signing of this extremely exiciting window, and it looks like we won’t have long to wait.
