Out of contract former Celtic star, Moussa Dembele is said to have been approached by several clubs since leaving Lyon at the end of the season.

That’s according to transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano who tweeted an update this afternoon on the Frenchman as he ponders his next move.

Romano tweeted, “Moussa Dembélé has been approached by several clubs after leaving OL as free agent.

“Understand Everton and Galatasaray are both informed on conditions of the deal, while Saudi clubs are also keeping tabs on Moussa situation.”

Dembele remains an icon amongst the Celtic support. His 51 goals in 94 appearances for Celtic is an impressive strike rate and his hattrick in his Glasgow Derby debut in the 5-1 rout of Rangers at Celtic Park made him an instant hero early into his Parkhead career.

Ironically, if the move to Galatasaray happens, he will face former Rangers midfielder, Ryan Kent who sealed a move to Fenerbache earlier today. [Sky Sports]

Very strangely, Dembele’s contract was allowed to run down by Lyon despite his numbers for the French club still being relatively good. 70 goals in 172 appearances in Ligue 1 is not to be sniffed at. However, he did have his share of injuries over his time at the club that did have an impact on his progress. [Transfermarkt]

What can’t be denied is that whoever lands Dembele on a free transfer is getting a quality player. And at just 26 years old, the former Celtic striker has still to hit his peak years which is frightening when you look at the sort of numbers he has already produced.

On the negative side for Celtic, we lose out on an potential sell-on fee due the expiration of his contract but I am sure all supporters will wish him well wherever he may wind up.
