Lyon were enjoying the attention of Celtic supporters today after Moussa Dembele impressed with a goalscoring double in Ligue 1.

Dembele is again starting regularly for the French side after a loan to Atletico Madrid last season. He’s now found his scoring boots after three appearances, netting two goals in a 3-3 draw at home to Clermont.

Lyon will be disappointed with the result considering they were 3-1 up heading into the final ten minutes. But at least their social media team found some joy from the Celtic fans who bombarded their feed earlier today.

The club tweeted: “We’ve missed these afternoons with Celtic FC fans 😃”

Although Dembele left in hurried circumstances back in 2018, Celtic supporters have always remained fond of him and tracked his career closely.

There was delight last season, for example, when the Frenchman was part of the Atletico side that superbly won La Liga.

It’d be great to see him get back to regular scoring form in the French top-flight. Not least because it could enhance any sell-on fee due to Celtic should the striker eventually make a big-money move elsewhere.

At one point he was reported to be attracting interest from the cash-rich English Premier League, which would have maximised Celtic’s sell-on money.

Dembele’s contract at Lyon expires in 2023, so his situation at the club could be coming to a head over the next 12 months, with has value potentially dipping.

Regardless, it’s nice to see him doing well and nice to see Celtic fans enjoying his progress.

On yersel Moussa!
