‘Familiar story?’ – Ange Postecoglou bristles at line of Tottenham questioning as ex-Celtic boss lacks usual composure

Ange Postecoglou has not had his troubles to seek as Tottenham boss this season.

The former Celtic manager’s Premier League side have been ravaged by injury this term and he has been unable to put his strongest squad out for some time.

That has unfortunately meant that Spurs are having a torrid time of it and sit 15th in the division which has understandably brought about criticism.

Ange was told he faces the sack earlier this week only for the board to publicly back him as they were told Postecoglou is “building something big” like at Celts.

But following his side’s 3-2 defeat to fellow strugglers Everton, the pressure ramped up again.

Ange Postecoglou has had run-ins with media as Celtic boss

It has been a season the Australian is certainly not used to in his management career having won five trophies at Parkhead and other titles in J League and his home country.

And the difficulty is now shining through in some of his media duties as was shown on Sunday at Goodison Park.

Postecoglou, even in Scotland, had some run-ins with the press including his “soap opera” Celtic complaints as well as questions about the Hoops’ mentality during his time in Glasgow.

Now, though, following a chat with the BBC after another defeat, Postecoglou seemed to take umbrage with how the initial question was phrased about a “familiar story” regarding another loss.

And he let the reporter know how he felt.

Postecoglou offered spiky response to the Spurs question

“Ange, familiar story, what are your assessments of that performance please?” was the initial question.

“Familiar story?” he replied, to which the journalist came back: “Well in terms of defeat…”

“Yeah, okay. Great way to start an interview,” Postecoglou bristled.

“Look, it was a tough result for us, we obviously first-half struggled to get control of the game.

“I made some changes to the team that probably weren’t helpful in the end.

“Had players struggling to come to terms with it and Everton capitalised on it.

“Second-half the players put in the right response and credit to them, but obviously we fell short.”

Postecoglou experienced more post-Celtic blues when he was abused by his own supporters in the aftermath of another result that didn’t go his way.
