The Celtic headlines this morning have been dominated by the Adidas contract extension news.

Michael Nicholson was delighted as Celtic extended their Adidas contract this morning as the CEO hailed the news as ‘a hugely significant announcement’ for Celtic.

But in the announcement, key details were missing about the deal as fans looked to see how much it was worth to Celtic by extending their partnership with Adidas.

However, details have now recently emerged about the deal and it’s certain to raise Celtic fans’ eyebrows as they digest the potential new home kit Adidas could be serving up next season.

Celtic’s deal with Adidas worth around £30m, but there is a catch

Celtic’s initial deal with Adidas that was signed back in 2020 was said to be worth £25m to the club over a five-year period.

However, the Daily Record reports that the new extension is now worth £30m but there is a catch.

The report claims, “Record Sport understands Celtic have agreed a blockbuster TEN-YEAR extension. It’s believed the lucrative landmark agreement will be well in excess of £30million in what will be a huge financial boost for the Parkhead side.”

If it is just £5m more for a deal worth double the number of years as the original deal seems like a strange stance for Celtic to take if true. What exactly is ‘well in excess’. £1m? £2m? £10m?

Clarity will be needed from the Celtic hierarchy to explain this as it seems that the club may have sold themselves short depending on what the exact figure is.

Celtic continue to flex financial muscle with Adidas

Whatever the details of the deal are, until the club explains them then fans will need to be patient.

But what is clear is that despite the lack of clarity at the moment, fans will continue to buy the merchandise the German sportswear giant produces.

There were plenty of popular released over the last five years of training and retro gear that went down a storm.

However, pricing and design of home kits remain a concern for many Celtic fans and it is something both Adidas and the club must take into account as the partnership continues.
