Auston Trusty is having the time of his life at the World Cup.

The Celtic defender netted his first United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) and World Cup goal last Friday, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side were beaten by Turkey in their final group game.

The United States, who had already qualified for the knockout stages, made several changes to the XI, including bringing Trusty to play at left-back.

But it seems as though, days before the Turkey match, Trusty had already envisaged himself scoring for his nation on world football’s biggest stage.

USMNT’s social media account released footage of Trusty putting up a small picture on the wall, and being asked, ‘What memories do you want to put up here?’

Even though the Celtic man is a defender, he didn’t hesitate to say he wants to net his first national goal on the World Cup stage, and it came true days later.

Auston Trusty rightfully predicts his first World Cup goal for USMNT

Presenter on June 19, 2026: “What other memories do you hope to make and put it up here?”

Trusty: “Hopefully, a goal, first international goal actually would be sick.”

Presenter: “We will be back right here.”

Trusty then returns six days later: “I said, ‘The next time I put this on the board would be the first international goal, and I would score in a World Cup.

“I said I would put it right here, so I will join this one. Got my debut, and my first goal. So, manifested that and it worked out. Thank you, guys, very much.”

What’s next for Trusty and USMNT?

Several knockout matches have already concluded. Daizen Maeda and Japan got knocked out by Brazil after a stoppage-time winner.

While Benjamin Nygren and Sweden were outclassed by favourites France on Tuesday.

Trusty, whose USMNT side face the difficult test of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday morning, are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Alistair Johnston.
