Former Australian international Ross Aloisi has admitted he’d love to work with Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.

The 48-year-old, older brother of former English Premier League star John, has also revealed he’s spoken to his agent about such a move within the last week.

It’s currently unknown who will be part of Postecoglou’s backroom staff at Lennoxtown. Right now coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan are still in place.

However, Aloisi’s latest comments would suggest that the new Celtic boss does hold a desire to bring in his own people.

Intriguingly, Postecoglou shares the same agent with the Adelaide United coach. Rumours have swirled in Australia and Aloisi was finally asked about it.

Speaking to The Real Football Show in his homeland earlier this week [17/06], he said: “All I can really tell you is that I spoke to my agent, Frank Trimboli, two days ago, but that’s about it.

“I know Ange reasonably well and have kept in contact with him over the years as well. But I think my focus is the task in hand and that’s a game against Sydney FC at the weekend.

“Everyone wants to work with Ange. I spent a bit of time with him up in Brisbane when he first started coaching the Brisbane Roar, the first season that they won the championship.

“Look, everyone wants to go to Europe and coach, but the reality is that there are obstacles that you have to cross and it’s not my main focus at the moment. Like I said, I would love, like everyone else, to go to Europe and coach, but we have a big game coming up and we want to give it our best shot.”

Ross Aloisi coaching history amidst Celtic speculation

Aloisi, a midfielder by trade, had a long playing career throughout the 1990s and 2000s at clubs in Australia, France, Italy, Malaysia and Switzerland. He won five caps with his country. [Transfermarkt] He also played at the 1996 Olympics alongside former Celtic striker Mark Viduka.

He’s now been coaching for over a decade in Australia.

He was the manager of West Adelaide between 2010 and 2013. That club is nicknamed ‘Hellas’ due to roots in the Greek community, so it’s no surprise he has a kinship with Postecoglou.

A move into women’s football followed, serving as manager of Adelaide United Women between 2013 and 2015.

It was then off to Brisbane Roar for Aloisi, where he served as an assistant to younger brother John.

Most recently he’s been working under Carl Veart back at Adelaide United, overseeing the first-team as an assistant coach.
