Report: Celtic move for Bright Osayi-Samuel would now cost €4m
If Celtic want to sign Fenerbahce winger Bright Osayi-Samuel this summer, it would now cost €4m (£3.44m), Turkish outlet Aspor reports.
Celtic have been heavily linked with Osayi-Samuel over the last 12 months. When he was at QPR his contract was expiring and Celtic were eager on a pre-contract signing.
It was reported by The Scottish Mail on Sunday in December that he was one of Neil Lennon’s big priorities heading into the January window.
However, Osayi-Samuel ultimately made a move to Turkey, where he played regularly for Fenerbahce in the second half of last season.
Now a further move is on the cards. Fotospor reported at the start of the month that Celtic, Rangers and Monaco were all interested in a summer transfer.
Last week, Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported that the Ibrox side had made an official offer.
Apparently whatever was on the table was not enough. Aspor reckons it will take a €4m fee to convince Fenerbahce to sell.
Celtic move for Bright Osayi-Samuel once made sense, now, not so much
Osayi-Samuel has never had the most productive of outputs. As far as I can see he’s all potential. Clearly, he is rated by scouts given the strength of interest and number of clubs after him recently. However, I don’t think he’s worth a multi-million-pound fee.
He only managed one goal in 18 appearances following his move to Turkey. [Transfermarkt]
Celtic’s interest made a lot more sense when he was going to become a free agent and available on a pre-contract basis.
Given Rangers’ apparent interest he is still worth keeping an eye on. It’d be a bit of a nightmare if he signed for them and became a big hit.
Hopefully Celtic are keeping tabs and are sure of their stance, whichever way it turns out.
