Former Celtic youngster Jack Aitchison has completed a late transfer deadline day move to fellow Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.

The 22-year-old makes his return to his homeland for the first time since his Hoops departure back in 2020.

Aitchison was regarded as a strong prospect coming through the academy and even managed to make his debut for the club at just 16 years old.

On his debut back in 2016, the Scotland under-19 internationalist became a double record-breaker at the club after scoring in a 7-0 victory during Ronny Deila’s final game in charge.

After coming off the bench, Aitchison became Celtic’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer at the age of 16 years, two months and ten days.

Funnily enough, his debut appearance in the 2015/16 season actually came against the club that he has just joined in 2023, Motherwell.

Following the perfect start to life at Parkhead, big things were expected of the youngster upon the arrival of new boss Brendan Rodgers.

The striker made two more appearances for the first team before heading out on loan to the likes of Dumbarton, Alloa Athletic and Forest Green Rovers.

Unfortunately, Aitchison’s time at the club came to an end in 2020 after he completed a permanent move down south, joining Barnsley.

Jack Aitchison completes surprise return to Scotland; Celtic fans will be looking forward to seeing how he fares.

Since moving to England, the forward player played for a number of teams, including his parent club and loan moves to Stevenage and Forest Green Rovers once again.

However, in the final hour of the 2023 January transfer window, it was announced that Jack Aitchison was making his return to Scotland after signing for Motherwell.

The Scottish youngster joins the Fir Park side on a deal for the rest of the season as he looks to make an impact in front of goal under Steven Hammell.

After his spell down south, it is certainly an exciting move for Aitchison to get a move back home, which allows him to test himself in the Scottish Premiership.

Former Celtic youngster Tony Watt is a player who managed to have a strong spell at Motherwell. So you imagine Aitchison will be looking to follow by example.

At 22, the striker is still in the early stages of his career, and Celtic supporters will be looking forward to seeing how the ex-academy graduate gets on in the SPFL.

A return to Celtic Park awaits Aitchison later this year when the Well travel to Glasgow on the 22nd of April in the final league fixture before the split.

Here’s hoping he isn’t able to do his new side a favour that day by repeating the trick of scoring at Parkhead!

We wish Jack all the best of luck on his move back to the Scottish Premiership.
