Neil Lennon is clearly looking to get back into football management as the former Celtic boss recently detailed his interest in the Aberdeen job.

We told earlier today how Lennon spoke of his interest in the Pittodrie job but it seems he was really close to getting his wish to return to the dugout after being heavily linked to the Republic of Ireland job.

However, it seems that the Irish FA have decided to go in a different route and Lennon shares just how close he was to being appointed as the successor to former boss, Stephen Kenny.

Lennon said [The Sun], “I was close to the Ireland job and I was disappointed to miss out on it.

“The feedback was positive but they said they wanted to go with someone who had  international experience.”

Lennon will always be remembered as an icon amongst the majority of the Celtic fans. Being the first ever Celtic man to win a treble as both a player and a manager, his place in the history books will forever be enshrined in Celtic folklore.

However, many still can’t forgive Lennon for the disastrous COVID season when, under his stewardship, we lost the opportunity to win ten league titles in a row in what would have been a first-ever in Scottish football history.

But what we should all remember is that Lennon started, and finished the Quadruple Treble. He was also the man to step up and take over when Brendan Rodgers left in 2019 when got the Treble Treble over the line.

And during his tenure as a player and first spell as manager, Lennon also gave us some incredible European nights.

Aberdeen would do well to look to Lennon to get them out of the mess they are in as Bolton Wanderers aside, he is a proven winner at every club he has managed.
