Former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong could be set for a move in 2023, with English Premier giants Manchester United remaining interested.

According to a report from German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the right-back is well aware of the interest from the Old Trafford side.

And within the ranks at Manchester United, they see Frimpong as a ‘very interesting’ proposition, with talks set to take place after the World Cup.

Currently, the defender is still playing his football out in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, almost two years on since joining from the Hoops.

Frimpong made his breakthrough at Celtic under former boss Neil Lennon after signing from the Manchester City academy in 2019.

It was clear to see from his early days as a player at Parkhead that the right-back had all the characteristics of a top-quality full-back.

And he has continued to showcase that quality for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League whilst also earning a call-up to the Dutch national team squad at this year’s World Cup.

English Premier League side Manchester United have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Frimpong and appear interested in bringing him to the club.

According to the latest reports from Germany, that move could come sooner rather than later, with an exit in 2023 looking ‘more than possible’ and talks set to take place after the prestigious competition in Qatar.

Celtic set to earn transfer bonus from Frimpong 2023 move.

With Frimpong now looking extremely likely for a move in 2023, Celtic also look set to receive a transfer bonus if Manchester United or any other side comes calling.

It has previously been reported that the Bhoys have a ‘cast-iron’ sell-on clause agreement in the initial deal that allowed Frimping to head to Germany.

So, a big-money move to the Premier League could see Ange Postecoglou benefit, and I am sure that would be a nice little bonus going into the January window.

After watching his incredible up-close at Celtic and then from afar, it would be great to see the defender’s hard-work payoff by earning a move to one of the world’s biggest clubs.

We will have to wait until after the World Cup to find out where Frimpong’s future will lie in January. But, his exit in either the winter or summer window of next year feels almost inevitable.
