Former Celtic defender, Charlie Mulgrew, has teamed up with the SFA to give back to the local community this summer.
Now part of Hamilton Academical’s coaching staff, the former Celtic hero is looking forward to cutting his teeth as the Lanarkshire side’s U18s coach this season.
Learning from the likes of Tommy Burns and Neil Lennon, coming through Celtic’s youth system, Mulgrew has a lot of experience to pass on from his title-winning and European glory days at Celtic and from his times at Aberdeen, Wolves, Blackburn and Dundee United.
And as Hamilton is set to benefit from that, so are the youngsters from Glasgow as the former Celtic hero delivers a touch of class to the local communities this summer.
Charlie Mulgrew launches SFA Summer Football Camps
The SFA have long come under the microscope for grass-roots development and it seems that they have decided to act one more this year and give children across Scotland to access free football events this summer.
In a follow-up to the successful camps held over the 2024 Easter Holiday, the SFA have launched a further 120-week-long summer camps ranging from the far reaches of Inverness to the local Glasgow community of Drumpchapel.
Launching the event, Mulgrew said the camps would have a positive impact on young children’s lives as well as giving them the opportunity to express themselves and provide an escape from the problems of everyday life.
Saddling off the back of Scotland’s participation in Euro 2024, the camps will also help to promote the game throughout the country and possibly help unearth the next Charlie Mulgrew.
With the Scottish Premiership new-season kick-off still over five weeks away, this new SFA initiative will help keep youngsters’ interest in the game going.
