Former Celtic midfielder set to make debut in England today
Former Celtic hero Tom Rogic is set to make his debut for West Bromwich Albion today after Steve Bruce confirmed he would be involved in some capacity against Swansea City.
Rogic signed for the Baggies after the end of the summer transfer window as a free agent and has undergone an intense training period to get up to speed, having not worked with other players since leaving Celtic.
Now, the English Championship will see what the iconic attacking midfielder can offer.
Speaking to the official West Brom website, Bruce said: “He will be involved. These last couple of weeks have allowed us to get plenty of intense work into him in a bid to get him as close to where we need him to be in a physical sense.
“He’s crammed a lot of work in over the last ten days. Having watched him over the international break in training, he’s a very, very good footballer. I’m sure he’s going to be a big addition for us.”
West Brom probably isn’t where most Celtic supporters expected Rogic to turn up. Many had pegged him for a move closer to Australia or even a side in one of Europe’s bigger leagues away from the UK.
Nonetheless, plenty will be rooting for him to be a success down south, especially if he can help his side get back into the English top flight.
Bruce’s team have had a difficult start to the season and sit way down in 21st position.
However, that still leaves them just 5 points off the playoff pace, and they’ll be hoping for an upturn in form, potentially even sparked by the kind of creativity Rogic possesses.
Good luck, Tom!
