Celtic manager Postecoglou asked about Dermot Desmond contact; gives brilliant response
Ange Postecoglou gave a brilliant response earlier when asked about his current relationship with Dermot Desmond.
Desmond is the largest individual shareholder at Celtic, and an important point of contact for every manager.
Postecoglou is no different and the Irishman has been a supportive figure to Celtic’s boss over the last year, as we have covered on the site.
Yet the pair may not have spoken for a while if Ange’s light-hearted comment from today’s press conference is to be believed.
Answering a question from the Celtic Star, Postecoglou said: ‘I’ve got a great relationship with Dermot. He was the first person who I spoke to when I first interviewed for the role.
‘The one thing about him is he’s very supportive. He said to me at the outset, he’ll only call me after we’ve had a loss, so I haven’t spoken to him for a year. [laughs]
‘He’s been very supportive. But there’s a real whole of club purpose to what we’re doing at the moment. There aren’t too many distractions that we’re allowing to take us away from what our focus is.
‘That can only happen if everyone’s on the same page.’
Whether the Celtic boss was being serious or not with his comments, we’ll never know.
Someone in the media could have mentioned that we have actually lost more than one game in the last year, in all competitions. But rather them than me.
Celtic’s boss was in good spirits today, joking on several occasions, including about the lack of a holiday he got in Australia.
The press conference lasted over 20 minutes and was one of the more entertaining ones this season.
Let’s hope the entertainment factor continues tomorrow against Motherwell.
