Celtic return to Scottish Premiership action this weekend against Kilmarnock as they look to stay on track in their quest to win a third successive league title.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are fresh from a 2-0 victory over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup, with goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda ensuring their passage to the last eight of the competition.

In an intriguing tactical switch, the Irishman deployed Furuhashi in a front two with loanee Adam Idah, and it remains to be seen whether he will continue with his formation change on Saturday.

At the time of writing, it is possible that Celtic may be in second position by the time they kick off against their Ayrshire opposition; however, the Hoops will manage to either reclaim or maintain a lead at the summit if they can secure three points.

Only 13 league matches remain this term, and it is all to play for in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership trophy.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate and Alistair Johnston are scheduled to miss the clash due to injury; nevertheless, left-back Greg Taylor will be available for selection after recovering from a calf strain, Rodgers has confirmed.

Aiden McGeady has his say on Celtic’s title hopes

Former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady has plenty of experience in the art of winning silverware, having laid claim to three league titles and a Scottish League Cup during his time with the Bhoys.

Now of Ayr United, the Irishman has had his say on how things may pan out this season and believes their previous experience in getting over the line may give them a slight edge over their arch-rivals.

McGeady stated [Scottish Football Podcast]: “Going forward for the season, it is very, very tight. Celtic have that experience of having been there and done it and hopefully it will be the deciding factor come the end of the season.”

It is hard to disagree with his statement, though only time will tell regarding Celtic having enough to edge Phillipe Clement’s side once all is said and done.

Their previous know-how may become an important factor as the weeks go on; however, there is little margin for error left at Parkhead amid several instances of dropped points this campaign.
