Celtic have had some high-profile individuals with notoriety in the game pass through Parkhead’s gates in recent years.

Kolo Toure would fall into that bracket, even if his spell as a Celtic player only lasted a season back in 2016/17, an Invincible Treble-winning one at that.

Becoming a popular figure as part of the club’s backroom team, the ex-Arsenal man shares a mutually agreeable relationship with Brendan Rodgers, which saw him follow the Irishman to Leicester City in 2019.

Striking out on his own in 2022, Toure was appointed as Wigan Athletic’s manager. Unfortunately, his spell in charge only lasted 59 days, but he has now landed his first role since his ill-fated stint in Greater Manchester.

Kolo Toure returns to Manchester City for academy role

According to The Sun, Toure and former Manchester City teammate Richard Dunne have returned to the Etihad Stadium, taking up respective positions in their academy backroom team ahead of the new campaign.

Toure has been installed as the Citizens’ Under-16 side’s assistant manager, working alongside lead coach Jamie Carr as part of a reshuffle from the Premier League champions, who are pencilled in to face Celtic at Chapel Hill in just under two weeks.

Intriguingly, it is his first role in any coaching capacity since leaving Wigan, and few players are better placed to impart wisdom onto the next generation than a man who has seen all that elite football has to offer.

Hopefully, Toure will make a success of his new position. He is a well-received figure among the Celtic fanbase and contributed to one of the most successful years in the club’s history while on board during Rodgers’ first tenure.

His work at Lennoxtown also gave him a platform to move further into the coaching scene, and it is always nice to see former Celts to well in their future endeavours.
