Former Celtic man Stuart Armstrong has spent time as a free agent this summer after leaving Southampton on a free transfer at the end of last season.
The 32-year-old spent six years on the South Coast, helping Russell Martin’s side gain promotion to the Premier League in his final term.
Of course, Armstrong was a fan favourite while at Celtic due to his industrious midfield displays, registering 28 goals and 25 assists in 144 appearances.
Thomas Frank took him on trial at Brentford during pre-season. However, nothing transpired despite his wealth of experience in the engine room.
Now, it appears he is close to finalising his next move and could be about to open up an exciting new chapter in his career.
Stuart Armstrong set for Major League Soccer switch
According to The Daily Record, Armstrong is ‘on the verge’ of completing a move to Major League Soccer outfit Vancouver Whitecaps after ‘weighing up his options’ during the summer.
In a switch that would see him reunite with former Dundee United teammate Ryan Gauld, the ex-Celtic man will join the Western Conference’s fifth-placed side as they prepare for a congested run of fixtures.

Born in Inverness, Armstrong was part of Scotland’s squad for Euro 2024. He made one appearance against Hungary, where he was denied a penalty appeal in the latter stages.
Last term, he notched six goals and seven assists in 46 outings for Southampton. Showing no sign of slowing down at 32, the midfielder’s longevity and availability have made him a reliable presence across Scotland and English football for a number of years.
Hopefully, he can succeed in the MLS as he prepares for his next career move. Celtic fans loved him while he was in Glasgow, and his famous song is still up there with the best produced by the support in recent years, which has to count for something!
