As Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his squad this summer, the Celtic manager will be hoping to get that much-needed quality in before the Scottish Premiership season kicks off in August.

With Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel already added to the side, Celtic look like they are poised to make more new additions as the Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah chat continues.

However, the chat today isn’t just about incomings as there is a player who was very successful under Rodgers in his first spell at Celtic who is still looking for a club right now.

And after appearing for Scotland at Euro 2024, it seems he could be a step closer to finding a new home after a weekend development.

Stuart Armstrong’s Brentford trial

Stuart Armstrong was part of the Celtic Invincibles treble-winning team under Rodgers’ first tenure at the club.

And as Brentford announced on X that he was on trial for the club’s fixture against AFC Wimbledon last weekend, The Bees’ manager, Thomas Frank, explained the decision.

Frank said [Football Scotland], “Great experience, great player, great career and there is more in him there is no doubt about that.

“He has been training with us and a bit of helping each other. Him, to get him to a good level, and for us, we have another good player in and that is the plan so far.”

Now 32, Armstrong is a free agent after deciding to leave Southampton at the end of last season as his contract expired.

Despite his fleeting Euros appearance for Scotland, the 51-cap international is still looking for his next club despite fully recovering from his recent injury.

It’s not known whether or not Brentford will take a punt on the former Celtic hero however, with his experience in the game and winning mentality, I’m sure it won’t be long before Armstrong is snapped up this summer.
