Former Celtic midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has defended himself on social media today after scathing comments made by Kilmarnock boss Tommy Wright over the weekend.

As we discussed on Saturday, Wright criticised the player’s effort and the circumstances of his departure from the Ayrshire club.

Wright claims that the former Celtic man left Rugby Park without warning to head abroad.

In a series of tweets, the midfielder said today: “Having heard Tommy Wright comments, I reserve my rights to answer because Killie fans need to know why this situation.

“My personal case is not important, the Club, the squad and the fans are. If I left, it was neither against the club, even less against the fans.

“The club having also been warned and that my commitments for others will always come before my own interests. Not to mention that in the last few games, even without playing, I was there. There are reasons why the club is in this sporting position, and I’m obviously not the reason.

“In football, the pitch always speaks for itself. I will not go into details. During my career, my professionalism and my work ethic have never been questioned.

“Most of ALL I wish to the club, the squad and to the fans all the best for this last game!”

Killie are still involved in relegation play-offs, but Mulumbu didn’t stick around.

They play at home to Championship side Dundee tonight, hoping to reverse a 2-1 aggregate scoreline from the first leg at Dens.

With their Premiership status on the line, this argument playing out in public is the last thing they need.

However, Wright has claimed that his players are happy that Mulumbu is away!

This latest saga is a strange and sorry exit from Scottish football for a player who showed excellent form at Kilmarnock under Steve Clarke.
