Former Celtic star Frank McAvennie has been poking fun at BBC pundit Tom English after the latter’s Rangers prediction today.
McAvennie posted a clip to Twitter of English talking about their match against Dundee United at Tannadice today, with the pundit claiming: “United could be in major trouble today. Rangers are so settled and so well drilled, United are coming up against a major, major Scottish force here. This is spoiling for a comprehensive Rangers victory here.”
Tam Courts’ United side would of course go on to win 1-0 thanks to an effort from left-back Jamie Robson.
In response to the clip and the pre-match prediction, McAvennie said: “Superb pundit.”
In fairness to English, I’m not sure many people would have been calling a United win today, but it’s funny nonetheless.
There’s been a lot of hype about this Rangers team and what they are capable of. Seeing them come crashing back down to earth over the last few days has been magic. I don’t think anyone will be calling them a ‘major, major force’ ahead of this week’s return leg against Malmo.

Paradise could well be bouncing if the day goes our way. After long, hot and often frustrating summer, it will only take a few results for good feeling to return to the support.
Today’s efforts from United could play a part in all that, regardless of the hype surrounding Steven Gerrard’s team.
