The agent of a striker who had been linked with Celtic has hit out at scouts for underestimating his client.

Brendan Rodgers was in for a number of strikers throughout the window but wasn’t able to secure the signing of anyone until Kelechi Iheanacho arrived as a free agent.

Celtic have been looking for a striker since Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure in January, and one name on the radar was David Strelec.

He has since joined Middlesbrough and scored on his debut, which has led to a fiery response from his agent.

David Strelec’s agent slams Celtic

Strelec’s agent name-checked Celtic as a club linked with his client; however, the Hoops pursued other targets.

Baffled by the decision, Michael Cierny hit out at the Bhoys on social media. He said: “My experience with international scouts is this, “Two things: First of all – Most of them think they are the BEST. They see themselves as these football gurus, equipped with Statsbomb and Transfer Room and Wyscout.

“In my 20 years in football I met hundreds of them and if there is one thing in common they have, it’s that they all think they are the best. Second thing: most of them are completely BLIND. They don’t see s—. Zero. Nada. None of the stats can help them.”

David Strelec’s agent claims he is one of the best in Europe

It may be a decision that Celtic come to regret over the years, and if Cierny is there to be believed, his client is one of the best players on the continent in the striker’s position.

“If you filter him with other strikers in Europe ages 18-25 on Wyscout, he is right behind Julian Alvarez and Alexander Isak.

“Number three. If you put the big boys there, he is number 16.”
