Former Celtic transfer target on the verge of being relegated months after £6.5m move

Celtic may have dodged a bullet, with a former transfer target vowing to stay at his new club, even if they are relegated.

The Hoops were desperate to bolster their squad in January and did get five signings through the door; however, only Julian Araujo really impressed before his season-ending injury.

Those who weren’t pursued by Celtic ended up moving to other clubs and one is on the verge of a terrible relegation.

Is this the worst group of finishers you’ve seen in a Celtic squad?

Kieron Bowie staring relegation in the face with Hellas Verona

Kieron Bowie was linked with a £6m move to Celtic for many months but the Bhoys decided against paying Hibernian’s asking price.

Bowie then opted to follow a path many other Scottish stars have done by heading to Serie A, where he signed for Hellas Verona.

It has been a struggle though, with Verona close to being relegated following their 2-1 defeat to Torino at the weekend.

Although Bowie scored his second goal for the club in that game, their wait for a second win since mid-December means they are nine points off safety with only six games remaining.

The 24-year-old has insisted he will stay if relegation does happen, and it looks likely that he will be playing in the second tier of Italian football next season.

Celtic dodged a bullet with Kieron Bowie

After all the hype around Bowie and what he could bring to Celtic, his time in Verona suggests that the 23-year-old may have not been the answer.

Celtic’s record in front of goal over the last 12 months has been dreadful and it is unlikely that Bowie would have been the man to change those fortunes.

Then again, the winter additions of Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu are hardly firing in front of goal too but, there are better options out there and the Hoops will be thankful in the long-term.
