Celtic have had their fair share of world class talents within their squad ranks.
Henrik Larsson will always be the King of Kings and his natural talent will never be matched. There have been other eras, too, including fan favourite Paul McStay and then there’s the other Hoops King in Kenny Dalglish.
The club have been bursting at the seams with class over the years. From Martin O’Neill’s era in Glasgow there were countless top players and for Ross Wallace, one stands out in particular as the most “underrated” he ever starred alongside.
Wallace may not necessarily have been a household name but as a kid at the time he still chipped in with a goal and five assists from 45 outings at Celtic Park under both O’Neill and Gordon Strachan.

Ross Wallace says Paul Lambert was Celtic’s ‘underrated’ gem
And he looked up to an ex-captain as one of the elite. Champions League winner Paul Lambert.
“What was he like as a player? Brilliant. Really professional. Likes a good laugh away from the changing rooms and that but as soon as you start training it’s like…” Wallace told Under the Cosh podcast.
“You know the top players’ mentality switch for training? This is serious now. And he was some player.
“Probably the most underrated player I’ve played with. I thought he was unbelievable. In that group with Larsson, Sutton, Lennon, Petrov, the Martin O’Neill era of big boys, I thought Lambert was top.”

Lambert won a Champions League before Celtic
Lambert worked with all the top guys at the club and kept them all in line as their skipper for years.
The 55-year-old still has a love for the Hoops and keeps his eye on exactly how things are going in the Scottish Premiership and beyond.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 30 | 24 | 3 | 3 | 89 | 20 | 69 | 75 | |
| 2 | 30 | 19 | 5 | 6 | 62 | 28 | 34 | 62 | |
| 3 | 30 | 11 | 11 | 8 | 45 | 41 | 4 | 44 | |
| 4 | 30 | 12 | 7 | 11 | 38 | 46 | -8 | 43 |
Lambert knows the gap at the top is massive between Celtic and Rangers right now.
And during his time with Wallace and his old boss, Lambert revealed how O’Neill transformed Celtic at that time.
Lambert won a Champions League medal with Borussia Dortmund before his move to Glasgow. So to still be considered underrated is criminal!
