Celtic fans have only caught a fleeting glimpse of Auston Trusty since he made his big summer move from Sheffield United.
A short cameo against Slovan Bratislava gave Trusty his first taste of football in the green and white Hoops but it’s fair to say his arrival has already inspired his Celtic teammates to improve their performances.
Tipped to start for Celtic against Falkirk today in the League Cup, Trusty will be hoping to get a full 90 minutes under his belt to show Brendan Rodgers what he can do.
But it seems that Danny Wilson, who was Trusty’s former teammate at Colorado Rapids, is a bit gutted that the US defender has signed for Celtic instead of his old club, Rangers.
Trusty’s ‘real belief’ of making it at Celtic
Wilson partnered with Trusty in the heart of the Colorado defence for three seasons and has said he wished the Celtic defender had joined Rangers instead.
Wilson told the Sunday Mail [print edition page 66], “I spoke to Auston last year when the Rangers interest was there.
“I didn’t think he’d end up at Ibrox as I always felt he’d want to test himself in the Premier League.
“I touched base with him at the time to see if there was anything in it – but he wasn’t giving too much away.
“I’d have preferred if he was on the other side of the city but he’ll do well at Celtic, I’ve no doubts about that.
“Auston will handle it here. Nothing seems to faze him and he’s relaxed in everything that he does.
“He’s also got a real belief in his ability. Going to a club like Celtic won’t faze him at all. He’ll have to earn the right to be a starter there but, once he does, he’ll be fine.”
‘Really intelligent’ Trusty now has big move at Celtic
Despite showing his disappointment at his Celtic move, Wilson has tipped Trusty to be a huge success at Parkhead as he listed what the fans can look forward to seeing from their new £6m defender.
Wilson continued, “Mentally, Auston is very switched on. He’s different from other players because he’s really intelligent.
“He’s very good in all aspects of the game and is a great professional.
“He is 6ft4in, left-sided and quick. At the time he just needed a wee bit of guidance.
“Pretty quickly, with the more games he played, it became clear we weren’t going to be able to hold on to Auston for much longer.

“And that’s how it panned out as he signed for Arsenal. He’s now got a big move to Celtic and he will do very well there.”
The form of Liam Scales has meant that Trusty has had to remain patient for his chance despite his huge price tag.
But it’s obvious from Wilson’s comments and that he has been capped twice for the USA, Celtic have got a talented defender on their hands.
Hopefully, Trust sees some game time this afternoon at Celtic Park and helps the team onto another Hampden semi-final.
