To a highly critical and demanding fanbase, the current actions of the Celtic board offer a frustrating sense of déjà vu, proving that leopards rarely change their spots.
Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign, there has been a lot of information and news being reported about the goings-on at Celtic.
It is shaping up to be a massive summer of transition at Parkhead, from the headline news of Martin O’Neill staying on as manager to defender Stephen Welsh leaving Celtic a year ahead of his contract expiring.
Frank McAvennie hasn’t held back, labelling the club’s decision-makers ’embarrassing’ for their total silence on a wave of massive updates.
From O’Neill’s future and Welsh’s exit to Hayato Inamura’s permanent move to FC Tokyo and Luis Palma’s departure, as he stated on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast.
“Everyone is talking about it, and Celtic haven’t made a statement,” said McAvennie. “I don’t know who does the PR. Maybe they are on holiday.
“I am joking about it, but it’s embarrassing, to be honest with you.”
Should Celtic push to sign Cláudio Braga now Martin O’Neill is staying?

Celtic are quick enough to communicate the sale of merchandise
On Tuesday morning, Celtic confirmed they will play a pre-season friendly match against AC Milan on July 25 in Glasgow.
Perhaps this is finally the start of supporters being reliably informed about the goings-on at the club.
But McAvennie hit the nail on the head about how Celtic are very good at prioritising what suits them best.
The former striker provided the perfect example of Celtic being ‘quick enough to sell you a jersey’, but they can’t maintain that pace around who the next manager will be or player departures.
“Maybe everyone is on holiday,” said McAvennie. “I don’t get it.
“Every man and his dog knows that Martin has signed. There are three players who have left as well.
“The boy Welsh has left. The papers have said it’s a goodwill gesture by Celtic letting him go, which is fine. Palma has left. There is another boy who has left (Inamura). The Japanese boy.
“Three have left, and there isn’t one word from Celtic. Everyone is talking about it, and Celtic haven’t made a statement. I don’t know who does the PR. Maybe they are on holiday.
“I am joking about it, but it’s embarrassing, to be honest with you. They come out and say all this nonsense about buying jerseys. They are quick enough to sell you a jersey, but they aren’t quick enough to tell you who the new manager is?! I don’t get it.”

When does the 2026 summer transfer window open and close in Scotland?
It’s going to be interesting to see how Celtic operates in this summer’s market.
Mainly because the previous two windows have been shambolic, and Paul Tisdale was booted out in January, alongside Wilfried Nancy, so who is calling the shots now?
Hopefully, the likes of O’Neill and Shaun Maloney have a big say, because they are now some of the most important footballing men at the club.
But it won’t be too long before the 2026 summer transfer window officially opens.
- 2026 Summer transfer window in Scotland opens on June 15
- 2026 Summer transfer window in Scotland closes at 5pm (UK time) on September 3
