Celtic’s pursuit of a top-eight Champions League finish continues.
It’s a credit to the team that they are still in the race because, after matchday two, everyone was fearing the worst, and rightly so.
Borussia Dortmund put seven goals past Celtic and many felt that it was the same old problems rearing its ugly head again.
But like all great champions do, the Bhoys picked themselves up from the canvas and produced two outstanding performances in the Champions League.
The goalless draw against Atalanta looks even better now given that they are the top team in Italy right now, whilst many regard Celtic’s win over RB Leipzig as one of the best European performances ever.
The man who Frank McAvennie wants to give credit to is Brendan Rodgers and how he adapted, which he felt Ange Postecoglou never did during his time as Celtic manager.
Frank McAvennie says Brendan Rodgers is more ‘shrewder’ at Celtic than Ange Postecoglou
Postecoglou is making the headlines for the wrong reasons at Tottenham right now, but he will always have a special place in the hearts of Celtic fans.
His all-action style was a joy to watch, but McAvennie feels Rodgers is ‘shrewder’ than the Australian, as he told his Let Me Be Frank Podcast.
McAvennie highlighted the Celtic boss changing ways post the Dortmund defeat and how it’s something Postecoglou didn’t even consider doing.

“I liked it in the first game when we got battered (Dortmund) and he said ‘I will never change’,” said McAvennie. “I thought, ‘Aye, you will’ and he did because you have got to.
“Ange didn’t change his defence. He didn’t want to defend. But Brendan is a wee bit shrewder than that. You have got to. I think Trusty and Carter-Vickers. I think that’s the two going forward. No disrespect to Scales. He has been brilliant.”
McAvennie critical of Celtic defender Greg Taylor
One of the reasons Celtic are flying in all competitions is because of the squad depth and the quality that is sat on the bench.
Players like Greg Taylor and on-loan Barcelona star Alex Valle prove that as they battle it out for a starting spot at left-back.
But McAvennie was critical of Taylor and explained that there is something he wants to see more of from the Scotland international.
“I like Valle,” added McAvennie. “I just like Greg to defend a wee bit more. See as a striker, if my fullback runs by me, I would like ‘what are you doing?’. That might be old school. But I want my defenders to defend.
