Frank McAvennie believes that Brendan Rodgers wanted Celtic to sack him this week. That’s his opinion.

However, it’s what the former Hoops striker has been told what actually happened between Celtic and Rodgers that will raise the fans’ eyebrows.

Rodgers resigned this week in a move that shocked the Celtic support as the former Hoops boss decided that his time at the club was over.

But McAvennie reckons that Rodgers did not resign as he shares what someone told him about how the Northern Irishman’s tenure at Celtic really ended.

Frank McAvennie says he’s been told Celtic sacked Brendan Rodgers

The official Celtic announcement said that, “Celtic Football Club can confirm that football manager Brendan Rodgers has today tendered his resignation.

“It has been accepted by the Club and Brendan will leave his role with immediate effect.”

However, McAvennie reckons that is not what happened.

McAvennie told the Let Me Be Frank podcast, “The thing is I think we might find out because I think Brendan’s got as big ego as Dermot and I think he might have to reply to that.

“In the last couple of weeks, Brendan, I thought, I know he’s been coming out with some stupid remarks but I thought they’re very well placed remarks.

“I think he was wanting sacked anyway. Now someone said to me he did get sacked. He went to resign and apparently he gets sacked.

“That’s what I’ve been told. Don’t know if it’s true or not. We will never know the truth.”

Details of Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic ‘meeting’

Stephen McGowan said that Rodgers requested a meeting with Celtic to try and end hostilities but it seems that the meet-up went south.

McGowan told PLZ Soccer, “As I understand it, there was a meeting on Monday, I think it was asked for by Brendan Rodgers.

“And he wanted to basically thrash things out and say, ‘Look, the negativity and the situation in the club is not good, and we need to address this.

“So we have two choices, either we reset the relationship, and you decide I am part of the club, and we go again and we move forward together, or we decide that if I have no future for the club, then that should be that’.

“I think he got a call later the afternoon, after the meeting was terminated and his resignation was accepted.”

Will Celtic fans ever find out what happened between Rodgers and the club? Probably not.
