The debate to bring Celtic captain Callum McGregor out of Scotland retirement has been raging over the last couple of weeks.
McGregor hung up his international boots to focus on his Celtic career and it has been the best decision he has made.
The Hoops skipper is fresher, sharper and is playing some of his best football right now at Celtic under Martin O’Neill.
And as Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic announcement closes in, fans will be hoping that McGregor’s form will continue to help the Frenchman get off to the best possible start.
However, as the Scotland debate continues, Frank McAvennie has sent a strong message to McGregor as chat around the Celtic legend and a return to the international side continues.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor told to continue Scotland retirement
There is no doubt about how McAvennie feels about chat surrounding McGregor’s return to Scotland duty as the former Celtic striker tells the legend to stay exactly where he is.
McAvennie told the Let Me Be Frank Podcast, “I don’t think so, I don’t think so. Because he’ll be a bit part, and Callum McGregor is not about that.
“And I think, as a Celtic supporter, I want him to have a good break in the summer, come back fresh.
“I don’t want him to go away and play in the World Cup. I don’t want him to go and train every day. No disrespect Callum, but when you get injured son, when you came back, that’s the best I’ve seen you. For years.
“So that break did him a lot of good. So I think that’s why he’s done it. He wants to go away with his family, he’s done it for years. And people like you are trying to get him back in.”
“So I just think, leave him where he is, I don’t think he wants to go back, he’s done it for years.
“And you go away, his wife and family. You go away, you get four weeks off or something, go and have them.”

What Celtic captain Callum McGregor said about a potential Scotland return
Indeed, McGregor was asked his thoughts on returning to Scotland duty after qualification for the World Cup was assured.
And, thankfully for Celtic, it’s not at the forefront of the skipper’s mind.
McGregor said, “To be honest, it’s not something I’ve thought of. The guys have done amazing, they qualified in the last international break.
“I’ve got a lot of good team-mates and good friends in there, so I’m so happy for them. And for me, I just want to concentrate on the job I’ve got here with Celtic.
“I don’t want to get drawn into anything like that.
“I’ve got a really big job here with the change of manager soon.
“I’ll just keep trying to play well and help the team and whatever will be, will be.”
