The reverberations over Celtic’s Champions League win over RB Leipzig are still being felt this week as the Scottish champions prepare to take on Kilmarnock today.

The Champions League win over RB Leipzig at Celtic Park was probably one of the best performances of the season by a Brendan Rodgers team so far.

Goals from Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate sealed the superb comeback win after Celtic went behind in the first half to a Christoph Baumgartner opener.

And it was a performance that really made Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer sit up and take notice of Celtic hero Nicolas Kuhn.

Gary Lineker said Celtic hero Nicolas Kuhn was ‘gliding past’ RB Leipzig

Both former England international strikers were gushing over Kuhn after his double sent Leipzig back to Germany empty-handed.

The display the Celtic team put on even made Lineker label it the ‘performance of the week’ out of all Champions League fixtures.

Lineker told The Rest is Football [18m 53s], “Let’s talk about, maybe the performance of the week, possibly, well, certainly one of them with Celtic beating Leipzig who have been going particularly well in the Bundesliga this season.

“And they played some really good stuff. And I don’t know whether you saw the performance of Nicolas Kuhn, who was involved in pretty much all the good stuff that Celtic did, scored a terrific goal, great assists, gliding past players. He looked like a real talent.”

Shearer was also impressed with the German winger and said that any team that comes to Celtic Park is going to ‘find it tough’.

Shearer replied, “What a result, yeah. He was brilliant in the bit that I saw. And you can imagine how it would have been rocking up there, wouldn’t it?

“And I think the format of this competition has given Celtic a great opportunity to progress. And any team that’s gonna go there in any game will, I think, find it tough because of who they are and what they create there. And another really good result for them.

“They’re really enjoying the Champions League this season. It was their previous game was at 0-0, wasn’t it? They got a point, so they’re loving it at the minute.”

Celtic fans will feel very confident now that their team making it past the group stage this season.

The draw Celtic earned in Atalanta coupled with the victory over Leipzig has given the Hoops support renewed vigour that the Parkhead club can compete amongst Europe’s best teams now.

With Club Brugge and Dinamo Zagreb up next, Celtic’s next two fixtures in UEFA’s flagship tournament could be the ones that send them into the play-off places in 2025.
