German World Cup and Champions League winner Bastian Schweinsteiger says Celtic Park was the best away atmosphere he’s experienced.

Joining the legions of greats to talk up their Parkhead experience, former Bayern Munich star Schweinsteiger was asked for his favourite away day in a Twitter Q+A.

Given the sheer breadth of experience Schweinsteiger has from a lengthy career at the top of the game, it’s praise indeed. Twelve times a Champions League participant [Transfermarkt], he’ll have played in his fair share of elite grounds.

However Celtic, Celtic, that was the team for him as he chose his favourite atmosphere.

Schweinsteiger reached a colossal 121 caps for Germany. He also won 8 Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, along with 7 DFB Pokals. Although he was most closely associated with the Bavarian side, Schweinsteiger has also lifted the FA Cup, during a spell with Manchester United.

He retired in 2020 with Chicago Fire.

Bayern Munich and Germany hero Bastian Schweinsteiger is by no means alone in Celtic assertion

Of course, Schweinsteiger isn’t by himself in this opinion. Spanish legend Xavi said [Daily Record]:

“When you step out at Celtic Park, the atmosphere they create for their team is incredible. It doesn’t matter how many big games you have played in.”

Paolo Maldini said he’d never felt anything like the atmosphere at Celtic Park. Oliver Kahn described it as an “honour” to play at Paradise, while Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and plenty more icons have heralded the Hoops’ fans.

Still, it’s always nice to hear, is it not? There’s nothing, nothing like the noise generated on a European night at Celtic Park.

We’ll have plenty of those this season, with three in the Europa league. Provided we don’t finish last in our group, we’ll be competing in the new UEFA Conference League after Christmas.

Let the big nights roll on. Bastian, you’re more than welcome.
