Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis continues to impress at his new club Atlanta United. The 28-year-old has been in great goalscoring form for his new club and it has been recognised by Atlanta’s Technical Director, Carlos Bocanegra.
Bocnaegra said, [MLS Soccer], “GG has come in and done a good job.
“You know, can we get some more out of our guys that are playing that position? Yeah, we hope so. And so it’s again, it’s something we need to evaluate going into the summer.

“GG’s played for almost 18 months straight right now with kind of a strange World Cup over in Europe, without a true winter break. So managing training and games, all the stuff everybody talks about now is gonna be important for us.”
Giakoumakis has already won the hearts of the Atlanta fans. Five goals in seven appearances for the club has meant he has become an almost instant fan favourite. The big Greek also created MLS history by becoming only the third player ever to have scored in each of his first five starts for the club.
But it does seem as though coming straight from Scotland to the US after playing almost half a season in the SPFL is taking its toll on Giakoumakis.
His strong start to the season seems to have been stalled by some slight injury concerns so Bocanegra’s plan to manage this is definitely a good one. Because as Celtic fans can attest to, a fully fit Giakoumakis is extremely hard to stop.
