Giorgos Giakoumakis is a happy man after making his first start for Celtic this season and helping send the Bhoys through to the next round of the Premier Sports Cup last night.
Goals from Giakoumakis, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and James Forrest powered Ange Postecoglou’s team to a 4-1 victory in the Highlands, away to Ross County.
Giakoumakis was was in a buoyant mood today, posting a message to fans on Instagram that said: “On to the next round! 🍀💚⚽️Once more, thank you for the amazing atmosphere you created!”
Other players joined in with the praise of last night’s travelling support too. Thousands made the trip to Dingwall, packing out multiple stands after being given an increased allocation from the recent league match.
Debutant Ben Siegrist said: “Delighted with the win 🍀Away support was top class🎉 Competitive debut ☑️🍀💚”
Anthony Ralston enthused: “Good performance from the lads! Travelling support first class! Onto the next.”
Meanwhile, a returning Stephen Welsh stated: “Another good performance from the lads. Thanks for the support once again.”
The feeling in the Celtic camp couldn’t be more positive right now heading in to two of the biggest games of the season – a home derby against Rangers with the chance to go five points clear and the first match against Real Madrid in over 40 years.
The preparation this summer and in the early stages of the season has been absolutely spot on from the manager and coaching staff.
The players are backing up that observation with determined and dangerous performances on the pitch. If we can carry that into what’s ahead of the next week, it will set us up for a simply huge season in Europe and domestically.
