Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr is counting on Celtic supporters to create a ‘big atmosphere’ next week when the Spaniards kick off the defence of their Champions League crown.
The Brazilian international was a huge part of Real’s successful 2021/22 season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions and providing another 20 assists. One of those goals just so happened to be the winner against Liverpool in last season’s final.
He’s started the new campaign in a similarly lethal fashion and is undoubtedly one of the key weapons that Celtic must neutralise next Tuesday night.

Speaking about the tournament and Madrid’s draw, the 22-year-old said [Daily Record]: “Of course the aim as always for this club is to win the Champions League – but for now we are fully focused on the group stage. Celtic have a big tradition and we know their fans will create a big atmosphere.
“Leipzig have some very good young players and German clubs are never easy to play against . For Shakhtar it will be special for them even if they do not get to play their games in their stadium.
“You can try to imagine what it is like to score a goal in The Champions League Final – but until you do it is impossible to understand. To score the winning goal against Liverpool last season was so special I can not even put it into words. Of course it is always the team first – but I hope that I have more goals in more finals.”
It truly is set to be a special night at Paradise. The stadium will be packed full. The atmosphere will crackle. There’ll be noise and colour up there with the best arenas in the world.
It may not phase a team of Real Madrid’s experience, but it could at least help our players raise their game and approach the fixture with no fear.
If Ange Postecoglou’s Bhoys can keep the football, openings can be created against the visitors and with a bit of luck, it could be one of those European nights in the east end of Glasgow.
We have a huge match against Rangers before then, but my mind can’t help but wander towards what we could see next week.
