New Celtic signing Maik Nawrocki has been taking part in a social media question and answer session this afternoon, after the club asked for fans to send in their burning queries.
Nawrocki has joined from Legia on a five-year deal and the transfer has taken on more significance in the wake of Carl Starfelt’s departure to Celta Vigo in Spain.
Brendan Rodgers has made it clear the club will be looking to sign another central defender but until then it is Nawrocki who will be trusted alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the Bhoys defensive line.
Fans have been impressed with his early minutes on the pitch, but are really just still getting to know him and this afternoon’s Q+A on the club’s official Twitter feed is a fun way to do that.
Asked about making his competitive debut at the weekend, Nawrocki said: “It was an amazing feeling on Saturday and to see it completely full of Celtic fans was incredible. It was a really proud moment for me.”
And on working with Rodgers, he is chuffed too, stating: “He’s been great. He’s very detail-oriented and has been very good to me since I joined Celtic.”
On life in Scotland so far, Nawrocki said: “Just how nice and helpful everyone has been in the city. I’ve really appreciated that. I like how Scottish people will greet people with a ‘Hiya!’”
And it’s clear he’s keen to push the Rocky angle! Asked about his favourite song, the defender said: “My favourite is always changing, but for fun I’ll say the Rocky theme song since I joined!”
Continuing with that theme, when asked about the pronunciation of his name, Celtic posted a video, with the defender adding: “Here it is! or you can just call me Rocky!”
Amongst the many other questions worth checking out, Nawrocki was also asked about Artur Boruc and Josip Juranovic, two former teammates at Legia. And the legendary goalkeeper was quick to get in touch. He said: “I only played a year with Artur, and only a few weeks with Jura – but Artur sent me a nice message a week ago to congratulate me after joining!”
Obviously, Nawrocki’s most important work will be done on the pitch and he is likely to be a starter for Sunday’s away trip to Pittodrie. That will be an important moment for him and a real welcome to life in Scottish football. But with Carter-Vickers beside him, the prospects of a strong partnership are good.
Hopefully he can live up to his early promise.
