‘Grow a set’: Former Celtic man doesn’t hold back in scathing rant over Hoops’ recent form

Celtic are in a sticky situation after dropping points for the second time in three Scottish Premiership matches under Brendan Rodgers.

Last weekend, the Hoops turned in a disappointing display at home to Kilmarnock, letting a slender lead achieved courtesy of Kyogo Furuhashi slip in the dying embers, where David Watson popped up at the back post to earn the visitors a point.

In truth, several players looked bereft of confidence across the latter stages last Saturday before the equaliser, only adding to the nervous atmosphere that engulfed Parkhead during proceedings.

Unsurprisingly, some fans made their feelings known at full-time, loudly booing the team off following another bad day at the office.

Rodgers admitted that he didn’t blame jeering supporters for their reaction, stating: “I can totally get the reaction of the supporters because even at 1-0 today they wouldn’t have be happy with that performance.

Now back at Lennoxtown, Celtic have no time for soul searching and will need to get themselves in a positive mind frame before their trip to Motherwell on Sunday.

Frank McAvennie breaks into scathing rant about Celtic form

Former Celtic man Frank McAvennie has clearly had enough of his old side’s performances this campaign, breaking into a rant outside Parkhead earlier today, in which he questioned the Hoops’ bottle alongside other aspects of their situation.

The 62-year-old also claimed that Pep Guardiola couldn’t get a tune out of the current squad if he were in charge.

He stated to PLZ Soccer: “Who are you going to bring in? Pep (Guardiola) is supposed to be the best manager in the world, he couldn’t make that team better.

“It’s all about confidence. With some of the players, it’s alright when you’re winning, but grow a set. Stand up and be counted, because if you’re looking at Kilmarnock and saying they’re individually better than you, then that’s not right for Celtic.”

McAvennie is known for being straight to the point on many issues and he has certainly lived up to that reputation in his latest assessment of events at Parkhead.

Celtic do need more players to step up and take responsibility as they approach a congested run of fixtures where all will be decided.

Picking up three points at Motherwell would be a start, with anything less on Sunday likely to put out title hopes in further danger.
