Gustaf Lagerbielke sends Instagram message to Celtic fans after first appearance in 2 months

Celtic comfortably saw off St Johnstone at Parkhead yesterday to climb to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Kyogo Furuhashi got the ball rolling just before the interval, turning home from a Nicolas Kuhn centre in expert fashion to give the champions a deserved lead following a dominant first-half showing.

Not long after the whistle sounded for the restart, the Bhoys doubled their lead courtesy of a role reversal involving Furuhashi and Kuhn, with the latter pouncing on a low cross to net his second goal for the club.

Experienced winger James Forrest put the seal on proceedings, smashing home from a swept Matt O’Riley pass to add some extra shine to the scoreline.

Late on, Joe Hart’s excellent reflexes couldn’t help to keep out Connor Smith, who netted a late consolation for the visitors to no avail in the 81st minute.

One noticeable feature of events yesterday centred around the decision to move Tomoki Iwata into central defence when Cameron Carter-Vickers was substituted rather than turning to Sweden international Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Of course, the 23-year-old did eventually enter the action in place of Matt O’Riley, making his first appearance for the Bhoys since January 2nd against St Mirren [Transfermarkt].

Gustaf Lagerbielke thanks Celtic support after rare appearance

In what has become a rather odd situation, Lagerbielke looked set to leave the club in January before an injury to Carter-Vickers forced him to stay put at Parkhead, capping a bizarre turn of events since his £3 million move to Glasgow last summer.

The former Elfsborg man has made just ten appearances since arriving in Glasgow, and his long-term future at the club is uncertain [Transfermarkt].

Nevertheless, he has taken to Instagram, delivering a determined message that reads: ‘+3 and we keep going (followed by a hundred emoji and a four-leaf clover emoji) Support great as always’ (with an Irish tricolour and sparkles emoji) attached.

Despite his rare involvement in the side, Lagerbielke was clearly delighted that he was able to play a part in the Bhoys’ comfortable victory, putting speculation over his own future on the backburner amid our fight for a domestic double.

Looking forward, it will be intriguing to see whether the former Elfsborg man does manage to gain further opportunities in Rodgers’ side despite his obvious complications at Parkhead.
