Gustav Isaksen reacts to what Celtic’s Kasper Schmeichel did to him in Denmark’s draw vs Switzerland

As the second international break of the season draws to its conclusion, Celtic’s stars were heavily involved in the latest round of fixtures.

Anthony Ralston helped annoy Cristiano Ronaldo as Scotland held Portugual to a draw at Hampden last night.

And it seems that Kasper Schmeichel also got annoyed whilst on international duty with Denmark last night as the Danes saw out a 2-2 draw with Switzerland.

Schmeichel was on the end of some bizarre criticism from the Danish media after Denmark lost to Spain last week and the Celtic ‘keeper would have been keen to show that he still has what it takes to represent his country.

Which would explain why Schmeichel went ballistic at Lazio’s Gustav Isaksen last night.

With the game sitting at 0-0, Denmark was looking pretty solid until Remo Freuler put the Swiss ahead in the 26th minute from close range.

Schmeichel raged at his defence and pinpointed Isaksen for not making a challenge to block the close-range effort.

When asked about the dressing down post-match Isaksen told Bold, “That’s how it is. If he saw that I could have done more, that’s okay.

“I’m glad I gave a little bit back at the other end. No, I can’t. It goes fast, and you talk a little hard to each other on the pitch. That’s how it is, says Isaksen, who chose to take a cautious approach in the specific situation.

“I thought I didn’t want to make penalties, and then I might withdraw a bit from the duel. Maybe I came to look a little stupid. I don’t know, because I haven’t seen it again.

“But of course, it’s always annoying when they score, and you maybe feel that you could have done more.”

Whatever Schmeichel said must have worked because Isaksen equalised a mere 85 seconds later to instantly draw Denmark level.

Schmeichel unhappy as Celtic hero criticises Denmark ‘mess’

It’s clear that the desire to not concede goals is still strong in Schmeichel not just at Celtic but also at international level.

When asked about the incident, Schmeichel responded, ” A cross came in, and there was a bit of a mess where it fell down to one of them, who chopped it in. That’s what I remember.

“Am I usually satisfied when goals go in? I haven’t exactly seen it back, and I don’t remember who it is, but I feel there was an opportunity to clear it, but as I said, I just have to look it back.”

Schmeichel has conceded just three goals domestically for Celtic this season but did suffer a horrific time in Dortmund in the Champions League.

Celtic supporters will love the fact the big Dane has not lost his competitive edge, especially when the Bhoys are set to face Aberdeen and Atalanta in two of Celtic’s next seven fixtures before the next international break.

A win on Saturday against The Dons will set Celtic up nicely for Atalanta where Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to put right that Dortmund wrong as soon as he possibly can.
