Gutted Hearts star Alexander Schwolow says his team simply cannot do what Celtic can ‘every week’

Hearts have become surprising title contenders to Celtic’s crown this season.

The Tynecastle side’s title aspirations have taken a wobble of late as Celtic continue their relentless winning streak under Martin O’Neill as Hearts struggle for a win.

With just two points separating the clubs, Celtic have shown some superb mental strength to put up a strong defence of their title from Derek McInnes’s side.

What has helped Celtic close the gap has led Hearts star Alexander Schwolow to admit what his team are lacking, which the Bhoys prove every season in the Scottish Premiership.

Hearts cannot ‘pop up with a goal’ late on to win games like Celtic can

Celtic are famed for their never give up attitude and their ability to conjure late goals from nothing.

Captain Callum McGregor’s late Celtic goal against St Mirren pulled the Bhoys out from a hole and Schwolow appears to regret that his Hearts team cannot seem to do that.

Schwolow told the Daily Record, “Motherwell had so many chances and didn’t score and I thought, ‘okay now we will score for sure in the last minute’.

“We need to look at what we can do better to improve and to get back to winning because that’s what you tend to see with teams that go on to win leagues or come very close to winning leagues.

Celtic’s most important goal of the season so far?

“When it’s 0-0 in the last minute, like Celtic did last week, somebody pops up with a goal. That’s definitely a quality we showed already this season and I’m sure we will show those qualities again.

“But you can’t do those things every week. It’s the way you play, it’s how many chances you create. I think over the complete season, that’s what counts more, because you cannot expect to win every game in the last minute and play average.”

Three games Celtic turned one point into three to keep pressure on Hearts

If it wasn’t for late goals this season, Celtic would still be eight points behind Hearts right now at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

So here are the three occasions where the Bhoys have shown the mentality of champions this season:

Celtic never give up and that is a quality that has been synonymous with the club’s successes for decades.

With Dundee up next and then Hearts to follow, Celtic fans will be hoping that it won’t take a late winner to collect six points from their next two games this week.
