Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has offered some of his own opinion in chat about who the next manager of Rangers should be.
Rodgers didn’t take long to see off his latest Ibrox boss, with Michael Beale departing our rivals seven points behind us in the league.
He joins the likes of Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha and Steven Gerrard in being unable to match Rodgers’ Celtic in the league. It’s just the way of it when the former Liverpool manager is around.
Our rivals are now searching for the next man to try and take us on, and one name that has been muted is Derek McInnes. The 52-year-old will take his Kilmarnock side to Celtic Park on Saturday, and Rodgers reckons he’s a man who could manage our rivals.
“I think he is someone who I’m sure would be in contention for the position,” he said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“He has history there at the club, but also, he has got experience and he has qualities as a manager.”

So yeah, Rodgers didn’t exactly say loads about McInnes. And, without knowing for sure, he would almost certainly have been asked about the Killie manager by a member of the media rather than volunteering some quotes.
Yet, it is still interesting that he chose to speak about our rivals’ hunt for a new boss. So many managers in his position would have shut off the question, using a phrase like “it’s not my place to comment on another club’s matters.”
Put it this way, do you think Ange Postecoglou would have entertained such a question?

By the way, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing at all from Rodgers. I actually really like his boldness in these kind of areas. It’s evidence of him starting to settle into his second stint in Glasgow.
Rodgers talking up the Kilmarnock manager for the Rangers job while we sit seven points clear is pretty funny, you have to admit. I’m sure they’ll take it well at Ibrox, as they always do.
