Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to be taking Celtic back to Glasgow with all three Scottish Premiership points from Aberdeen.
Celtic sent Aberdeen to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table after a comfortable 2-0 win at Pittodrie.
With Rangers dropping points against Dundee, a four-point gap has opened up between Celtic and the Ibrox club and with one game left to go until the big Glasgow Derby, Rodgers already has already opened up some daylight from his biggest rivals.
Speaking after the match, Rodgers was over the moon as he picked out one player who caused the Pittodrie crowd to boo as Celtic leave Aberdeen with a big win in the Scottish Premiership.

Brendan Rodgers praises Celtic’s ‘heart’ in big win vs Aberdeen
The Celtic manager was clearly delighted as he praised his team’s heart and spirit as Celtic go clear at the top of the league.
Rodgers told BBC Radio Scotland, “Really pleased. We controlled it really well. We had a lot of really good moments in the game, scored two outstanding goals and had a few other opportunities to score.
“The keeper makes a great save, and then when we had to defend, which you do, you can never dominate 100% in the game.
“But in those moments we had to defend, we defend it very, very well and strong. So I’m so pleased for the players, because, and the last season would have hurt them, because they had a fantastic season last season.
“But we come here today. We play with quality, we play with heart, and we get the result.”
Brendan Rodgers hails Celtic new Bhoy Benjamin Nygren vs Aberdeen
Benjamin Nygren scored his first-ever goal for Celtic and Rodgers was ecstatic with his new summer signing.
Rodgers continued, “Yeah, brilliant. Really pleased for Benji. That’s why we signed him. You know, he’s a player.
“If you look at his record, he scores goals from midfield or wide areas, but we see him very much as an ear who can move well, he can take the ball in tight spaces and he can get in the box.
“Was really nice for him to get that goal. And the second goal, we played out the pressure really well. And then Reo has done that up here a few times, and got very good finishes.”
Celtic’s next league game before big Ibrox Glasgow Derby vs Rangers
With a four-point gap to Rangers, Brendan Rodgers know he can now go to Ibrox and face Rangers with a bit of breathing space.
Indeed, the Celtic boss will be aiming to win that game but there is one more league fixture to play before the big Rangers game.
- Celtic vs Livingston – 23/08/2025
- St Mirren vs Rangers – 24/08/2025
With Celtic playing a full 24 hours before Rangers, Rodgers has the chance to open up a seven-point gap before the trip to Ibrox and pile on even more pressure on new boss, Russell Martin.
