Celtic loanee Liam Scales has continued to receive rave reviews from his new manager Jim Goodwin.

Scales made a very positive early impression at Pittodrie, strolling through the Dons’ Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign as part of a defence that didn’t concede a goal, and Goodwin hopes that the club can tie the Irishman up permanently.

As reported by Aberdeen Live, Goodwin said: “There’s nothing to suggest that we won’t enter into conversation with Celtic again in January to see if we can make it more of a permanent fixture but for the time being it’s a loan.

“He’s a fantastic player, he’s doing great, he’s very consistent in his performances which is all you want. For the time being he is very much our player.

“He’s not one that’s got a big ego. he’s happy to come in and get on with things. Not only is he good around the place, within the dressing room. He’s also a very, very good player and that’s why we pushed so hard to bring him here.”

Goodwin stated that his fellow countryman’s desire to pursue first team football over sitting on Celtic’s bench shows the 24 year old’s ambition, and believes that Scales’ first international cap can’t be far away.

He said: “Liam has come here to play regular first-team football something he didn’t quite manage last season at Celtic.

“I’ve got to take my hat off to him it’s easy for these younger players to sit at the big clubs and be part of the squads and enjoy big European nights.

“Liam wants to come play week-in-week-out to give himself the best opportunity to try and force his way into the international set-up with Stephen Kenny. Performances like last weekend against St Johnstone will go a long way in helping him achieve that.”

Following his arrival from Shamrock Rovers last summer, Scales was a peripheral figure in Celtic’s charge to the Premiership title, making just 13 appearances in all competitions, with Josip Juranovic more frequently deputising at left back in Greg Taylor’s absence.

With the signing of Alexandro Bernabei and the continued form of Taylor, Scales doesn’t seem to have a future in Paradise.

His loan to Pittodrie seems to be a move that’s worked for all parties, and few could begrudge Scales a successful time in the north of Scotland should the move be made a permanent later in the season.
