If you had an early night on Monday, then the news coming out of Celtic would have shocked you the following morning.

Whether that’s Brendan Rodgers resigning as Celtic manager, Martin O’Neill returning to Glasgow, or Dermot Desmond’s scathing statement.

That was certainly the case with Hibernian boss David Gray, who faced Rodgers and Celtic at the end of September and picked up a point at Parkhead – it’s proven to be their last meeting.

But as Gray prepares his Hibs side to take on Rangers on Wednesday evening in the Premiership, it is all going off in Glasgow.

David Gray on Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic exit

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Gray shared that he had an ‘early night’ on Monday, before waking up to the drama of Rodgers leaving.

Despite it all going off, the Hibs boss admitted that he wasn’t surprised by the news, because that’s the nature of football.

“I woke up to it this morning, actually,” shared Gray. “I had an early night last night, so I wasn’t aware of that one.

“In football, nothing surprises me. Anything can happen. It’s certainly nothing that directly affects us, and my focus is on Rangers on Wednesday night. That’s a huge challenge for us. We have three games in six days, so that’s purely my focus right now, and moving forward, that will be the case.”

Rodgers’ record vs Gray

Rodgers leaves Celtic as a legend, despite all the off-field noise, with four trophies to his name from his second spell, and 11 in total.

To nobody’s surprise, the Irishman has a pretty strong record against his counterparts, and Gray is no different.
