How Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has reacted to Brighton interest
Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has taken interest from Brighton in his stride, and is training as well as ever.
That’s the verdict from Callum McGregor, who hit out at “body language experts” yesterday. The Celtic captain believes Edouard is playing with a smile on his face, despite all the speculation linking him elsewhere.
The Daily Mail report that Brighton are to launch a bid for the Frenchman after tonight’s clash with FC Midtjylland. Meanwhile, the Daily Record believe they have the details of a structured deal for the Bhoys talisman.
However, McGregor maintains that Edouard remains focused on tonight’s game, and is far from a negative influence at Lennoxtown. Edouard’s body language has often been criticised. However, McGregor believes there’s nothing to glean from his more muted personality.
The Celtic captain said [Scotsman]:
“Everybody becomes an expert in body language in these situations.

“That’s just football. You are under the microscope every single time you walk out on the pitch. Everybody is looking at you and judging you and your body language.
“But all I can say for Odsonne is that he looks as relaxed as ever.
“He is in good spirits. Every time he is around the training ground he is having a laugh and a joke and I think his performances in the last few games have looked right at it.
“[Edouard] is giving defenders problems, he is looking strong, he is looking quick and getting himself into positions where he has goalscoring opportunities. He got one or two in pre-season and he looks in good form. [The striker] seems happy as well.”
Brighton interest not affecting Odsonne Edouard, says captain
Whether Odsonne Edouard moves to Brighton or not, it’s a shame that his legacy is affected by comments about his attitude and application.
Pundits like Charlie Nicholas have criticised Edouard in the past [Glasgow Times]. His natural calm and focus have been misinterpreted as laziness or lack of enthusiasm in playing for Celtic.
Edouard isn’t the most exuberant celebrant of goals. Nor is he one to show how tired he is. Yet, he receives flak despite his excellent goal return.
Yet, it’s obvious he’s an integral part of the dressing room and gets on well with his fellow professionals. Despite all the speculation, Edouard has never handed in a transfer request. As of yet, he’s never clamoured in the press for a move from Celtic. From all appearances, the French striker has never caused the club any problems.
If, indeed, Brighton make a successful bid for Odsonne Edouard, he has a chance to go out on a high. Ensuring Europa League football at the very least would be a significant boost in the early part of Postecoglou’s reign.
His attitude, it seems, has never been a problem. And he loves the big occasion. With his skipper’s backing, Edouard has all the qualities to leave Celtic on a winning note.
