It always helps to have a familiar face at a new club and for Greg Taylor, it is the perfect way to settle into life in Greece.

Taylor joined PAOK after his contract expired at Celtic Park, bringing an end to his six years with the club.

The full-back knew he would have former Celtic loanee Jonjoe Kenny to help him bed in at his new club and now he has another familiar face around Thessaloniki following Giorgos Giakoumakis’ transfer.

Greg Taylor sends Giorgos Giakoumakis message after PAOK transfer

Giakoumakis has been playing in the USA and Mexico since leaving Glasgow but seemed keen to return to his homeland to play regular football.

He was unveiled by PAOK on Wednesday, as they announced he had signed on loan, with an option to buy.

It was clearly welcome news to Taylor, who sent the imposing forward a short, but nice message on Instagram, that read: “Getting the band back together.”

The full-back and striker played 39 times together while both at Celtic, winning a Scottish Premiership title among other accolades.

Giakoumakis was never given a fair chance at Celtic

Looking back on Giakoumakis’ Celtic career, it’s hard to decipher if he was a success or not.

There were some big moments during his time at the club, notably his goal against Dundee United to secure the title but with Kyogo Furuhashi in the team, he always played second fiddle.

The striker has admitted himself that tensions threatened to boil over between himself and Ange Postecoglou by the end of his Celtic days but he is still fondly remembered by supporters as someone who never gave anything less than 100 per cent.
